Allergy Season Is Upon Us

I used to suffer horrible allergies when I moved to a new state.  It took several years to develop but when they hit, they hit hard.  Prescription drugs made my heart race, my hands and feet would get clammy and cold and everything I tried was just covering up my many symptoms and not really working even though I tried every known allergy medication on the market. I searched deeper to find reasons to ease my suffering and even though it took awhile I am now making it through with only a few sniffles. Everyone is different but I found quite a few products that work.

One of the main reasons some people suffer more is an excess of histamine.  You can eliminate foods that contain histamine to cut down, it helps.  Foods like red wine, beer and fermented foods.  You don't have to give them up forever just during allergy season.

Also the following supplements work:

  • Vitamin C. Divided doses of 3,000 to 10,000 mg per day helps to flush histamine from the body.
  • Calcium; 1200 to 2000 mg per day in divided doses helps pull histamine from cells.
  • Magnesium stabilizes mast cells so they don't release as much histamine.
  • Quercetin an antioxidant flavonoid. Turns off the histamine-producing mast cells. Divided dose of 1 to 3 grams daily.
  • Stinging Nettle contain high amounts of Quercetin which reduces histamines.
  • One to two grams of fish oils help with the body's anti-inflammatory response.
  • B6 helps lower histamine, but if you take this supplement take a low dose and not for an extended period of time or nerve damage may result.
  • People with allergies tend to be deficient in chromium, zinc, manganese and B6.
  • Avoid B12, lysine, folic acid as they can raise histamine levels.
  • Green tea.  According to "Science Daily" researchers in Japan identified a compound in green tea that, in laboratory tests, blocks a key cell receptor involved in producing an allergic response.
